Custom wooden promotional items follow a manufacturing and marking logic that is very different from that of plastic or textile supports: here, each piece exhibits a slight natural variation – grain, color, knots, porosity – which directly influences the quality of the final result. Wood, whether raw, varnished, oiled, or stained, first requires the choice of species: bamboo, light and fast-growing, is prized for eco-friendly ranges; maple and beech, denser and more homogeneous, are better suited for precision markings, particularly by laser engraving; pine or poplar, softer, are often reserved for decorative or low-stress items. Marking is not improvised: screen printing can bleed if the support is too porous, UV printing only holds on a perfectly smooth and treated surface, while laser engraving, more durable, darkens the wood in depth, with variable contrast depending on the humidity of the material. A marking that is too fine can disappear into the fibers, a logo that is too complex can become illegible on an irregular background. On the object side, the possibilities are vast: bamboo pens with metal clips, beech rulers with centered marking, spiral notebooks with pressed wood covers, USB keys embedded in a walnut shell, tea boxes or appetizer boards engraved on the edge, smartphone stands cut in one piece, or even medals, trophies, badges cut to shape. Each use involves specific treatment: food-grade oiling for boards, extra fine sanding for office products, high-pressure gluing for composite objects. A wooden promotional item, unlike its plastic equivalent, carries an affective dimension in its very material: it is kept, touched, and felt. But this sensory warmth imposes a requirement: the sanding must be neat, the edges smooth, the marking well-anchored, without smudging or offset. And if the object is assembled, the pieces must fit together seamlessly, with tolerances below a millimeter. The ecological aspect is credible only if the manufacturing quality is up to the mark. Custom wood, well-controlled, does not imitate. It asserts.
