The personalized radio is a hybrid object, at the crossroads of technology and nostalgia, designed to capture waves but also to convey a visible and lasting brand message. Compact or bulkier depending on the model, it can operate in analog (FM/AM), digital (DAB+), or with Bluetooth connectivity, often integrating a speaker function to listen to music from a smartphone or USB stick. The casing is made of injection-molded ABS, in matte, glossy, or textured plastic, sometimes in brushed aluminum or bamboo for high-end versions, and the buttons — knob, slider, keys — are chosen for their robustness and tactile sensitivity. The telescopic antenna, carrying handle, backlit LCD screen, or needle indicator contribute as much to usage as to aesthetics. Personalization is done on flat surfaces: front panel, side, area under the screen, or speaker grille, via pad printing, digital printing, or laser engraving depending on the materials. The logo, a baseline, or an icon must be integrated with care not to interfere with the readability of frequencies or general ergonomics. Unlike a purely decorative object, the radio requires technical precision: good reception, clear sound, adequate autonomy on batteries or lithium battery, compatibility with local broadcasting standards. The promotional radio finds its place in kitchens, offices, workshops, hotels, or relaxation spaces, often placed on a shelf, within earshot. Its effectiveness relies on its discreet but regular presence: turned on in the morning, as background sound in a room, it creates an atmosphere, sets the pace of a day, accompanies a calm or active moment. The brand's visual remains visible, without aggression, associated with a voice, music, or information. Some models include an alarm function, alarm clock, jack port, or integrated solar panel, enhancing their usefulness in various contexts. Others lean towards a deliberately dated retro style, with wood imitation finishes, metal buttons, and analog display, playing on nostalgia while integrating modern functions. The radio then becomes more than just a functional object: it tells a story. Offered in a company, given at a trade show, included in a welcome pack, it extends the relationship between the brand and the user's daily life, through a medium that continues, despite the streaming era, to occupy a lively place in the personal sound space.
