The custom plant, as a vegetal object integrated into a communication operation, relies on a set of precise technical constraints: choice of species, type of container, method of customization, shipping conditions, and visual stability of the marking in a humid environment. The customization never applies to the plant itself — which remains a non-modifiable living being — but only to its pot, cachepot, or packaging. The standard container measures between 6 and 14 cm in diameter, with a height proportional to the chosen variety, generally between 8 and 25 cm in total. The pots are made of injection-molded plastic (PP), natural terracotta, painted zinc, glazed ceramic, or bio-based materials (compressed plant fibers, recycled wood, coffee grounds). The usable surface for marking depends on the material and shape: between 40 × 30 mm (conical pot) and 70 × 50 mm (cylindrical pot). The printing is done by pad printing, laser engraving (for wood or bamboo), cut vinyl sticker, or direct digital printing with UV ink, depending on the substrates. The marking must withstand ambient humidity, splashes, repeated watering, and micro-abrasions related to handling. The delivered plants are resistant species, slow-growing, tolerating temperature variations, indirect light, and watering neglect. Most often found are: succulents (haworthia, echeveria, crassula), cactus, pilea, fittonia, calathea, tradescantia, or aromatic plants (basil, mint, thyme). The substrate is a stabilized mix based on peat, perlite, and coconut fiber, sometimes enriched with slow-release organic fertilizer. The custom packaging can be a folding cardboard case, a rigid windowed box, a kraft tube, or a printed sleeve slipped around the pot. This support offers an additional surface for the graphic charter, a message, or maintenance instructions. Secondary marking is done in four-color or monochrome, with protective varnish or moisture-resistant lamination. Transport is carried out individually cushioned, with the pot and plant secured by cross braces, cardboard inserts, or pre-cut foam. The production lead time is 8 to 12 working days depending on the variety and level of customization. Shipping is done just-in-time to preserve the integrity of the plant. A poorly prepared product shows visible signs upon receipt: dried soil, soft or yellowed leaf, detached label, cracked pot, or blurry print. A good product, on the other hand, is presented neat, stable, with a centered plant, fresh substrate, visible and neatly applied marking, and a container suited to the root format. The custom plant, beyond any symbolic or decorative dimension, should be approached as a complex object — living, calibrated, conditioned — on which every detail, from watering to printing, influences the final quality of the brand support.
