The coaster, or personalized beer mat, is a local communication medium that is flat, tactile, discreet yet omnipresent, designed to blend into a friendly environment while clearly displaying a visual identity. Made from compact absorbent cardboard (usually 1.2 to 1.4 mm thick), cork, wood, silicone, or soft PVC depending on its use (temporary or reusable), it must combine resistance to moisture, abrasion resistance, and stability on a flat surface. The format is most often round (90 mm in diameter) or square with rounded corners (90 × 90 mm), but it can be cut to shape to fit a logo or theme. The marking surface covers almost the entire visible side, allowing for four-color, offset, or screen printing with complex visuals, in high definition, single-sided or double-sided. On cork or wood, laser engraving offers a sober and durable finish; on PVC or silicone, embossed marking or resin doming adds volume and shine. The promotional beer mat is often used in bars, lounges, events, or break areas, where it remains in place for several minutes under the user's eyes, or even collected or kept. It can include a QR code, a promotional offer, or variable numbering. Some absorbent models can be varnished to extend their lifespan, others washable for recurring use. Packaging, in individual bags or in sets under kraft bands, enhances the gift or utilitarian aspect. A seemingly simple object, the personalized coaster becomes, when well-designed, an effective table medium: silent, visible, handled, stackable, and shareable, it embodies a flat but active surface where the brand gently and effectively settles into daily gestures.
