The personalized kitchen knife is a sharp, one-piece or assembled utensil designed for food cutting, with personalization exclusively done on the blade or handle, depending on the material and manufacturing technique. The blade is made of stainless steel (420, 3Cr13, X50CrMoV15) or damascus steel for high-end models, with an HRC hardness between 52 and 60 depending on the composition. The length ranges from 8 cm (paring knives) to 20 cm (chef's knives), with a straight or slightly curved edge, sharpened at 15 to 20° per side, with a satin, mirror, or stone-polished finish depending on the quality level. Personalization is done by laser engraving on the solid part of the blade (usually 10 mm from the spine, left side for right-handers), on a surface of approximately 30 × 10 mm. For wooden handles (olive, pakka, beech, walnut), the laser engraving is browned and positioned in the middle area; for handles made of ABS, POM, or polypropylene, pad or UV printing is used, but with less resistance to washing. Full-tang forged models are equipped with 2 or 3-point through riveting, with or without reinforced bolster. The total weight of the knife varies between 80 and 300 g depending on the size, with the balance between blade and handle being essential for prolonged use. The blade should be straight, without grinding defects, misaligned heels, or asymmetric sides. Models intended for the general public are delivered with a plastic sheath, cardboard case, or rigid box with cut foam, depending on the desired level of presentation. The marking must withstand water, thermal shocks, manual washing, and to some extent, the dishwasher (depending on the handle material). Sharpening is done at the factory with a ceramic wheel or abrasive belt, with final edge control by paper or soft rubber cutting test. The blade should not wobble in the handle, nor vibrate when tapped, which would indicate poor fitting. A poorly made kitchen knife shows visible defects: inconsistent cutting angle, off-center logo, irregular blade edge, or poorly fitted handle. A good knife, however, remains balanced, cuts effortlessly, retains its sharpness for several weeks, and features a clear, aligned, proportionate, and durable engraving or printing for real use.
