The personalized mug, a table but especially office object, relies on a series of often underestimated technical elements, where each detail – material, shape, capacity, printing surface – determines not only the product's durability but also the clarity and durability of the marking. Made from ceramic, porcelain, or enamel, it can be glazed, matte or glossy, with or without a rim, with a round, angular, thin, or wide handle, each variant affecting the tactile and visual experience. The standard volume is 300 ml, but versions exist in 180 ml for espresso, or up to 450 ml for XL mugs; a crucial point to define depending on the distribution context. The promotional mug is distinguished primarily by its printing area: between 170 and 210 mm wide, with a height of 70 to 90 mm, depending on the model. This surface, curved and sometimes irregular, requires perfectly adjusted marking: a poorly positioned visual is misaligned to the eye, a logo that's too small gets lost, a text that's too long gets distorted. Ceramic screen printing, kiln-fired, ensures optimal dishwasher resistance but limits the fineness of the lines; sublimation, meanwhile, allows for vibrant four-color printing but requires a mug with a special polyester coating, often glossy white. The position of the marking must also be considered: front face, right-handed side, left-handed side, front and back, or 360°, as the direction of exposure depends on the user's natural gesture. Some models offer printing inside, on the handle, or even under the base, with strong technical constraints but an original impact. The weight of the mug – often between 280 and 400 grams – contributes to the perception of quality; too light, it feels hollow, too heavy, it becomes cumbersome. The thickness of the walls influences thermal retention, as does the shape of the lip (upper edge), which can be straight, flared, or slightly rolled. Special finishes – chalk mug, thermoreactive, sandblasted, metallic – modify not only the aesthetics but also the marking technique, which must then be precisely adapted. Finally, individual packaging – neutral cardboard box, windowed box, personalized kraft sleeve – transforms a simple container into a complete gift. The personalized mug, when well thought out, is not just a support: it is a daily presence, placed, offered, washed, shared – a physical, recurring, and visible object, whose perceived quality depends as much on the handling as on the clarity of the visual and the coherence of the overall rendering.
