Personalized candies are individually wrapped or container-packaged confections, whose customization applies to the packaging, box, or bag, without altering the food composition. We are not talking here about gourmet gifts in general but rather about candies as technical products: sweet units, cast, molded, compressed, or gelled according to precise industrial processes, meeting strict criteria for preservation, texture, and markability. The most common formats are hard candies (cooked sugar type), soft gums (gelled with pectin or gelatin), compressed tablets, and dragées. Each category involves distinct packaging: transparent or opaque flowpack for individual units (3 to 6 g each), cardboard cases or flexible bags for groupings of 50 to 100 g, rigid plastic boxes (tablets) or metal (click-clack boxes) for standard containers.

Customization is almost never done on the candy itself, except for food marking on a flat surface like a neutral tablet, but rather on the support: wrapping paper, label, lid, or direct screen printing on the container. The flexible bags are generally made of polypropylene, PE, or metallized PET, allowing for four-color flexographic printing, or the application of a personalized label (30 × 40 mm on average). Click-clack boxes (55 mm in diameter, metal) are customized on the lid by four-color digital printing, pad printing, or laminated label. The content is subject to regulatory obligations: composition in French, best before date, batch number, mention of allergens, and net weight.

The type of candy depends on the specifications: hard candies are hot-cast at 140–160°C, then cooled and packaged dry; gums are extruded or cold-molded with a coating of vegetable oil or fine sugar; tablets are compressed dry at high pressure, while dragées are coated by successive layering in a turbine. The recipes are often vegetarian, gluten-free, and free from artificial coloring, but it depends on the manufacturer: some use pork gelatin, others pectin or agar-agar. The shelf life varies from 12 to 36 months depending on residual humidity and type of packaging.

Candies are tested for density (no fusion between units), crush resistance, thermal stability, and ink migration (on label or film). The marking must remain intact under transport conditions, with no deformation or smudging. A bad batch presents defects such as stuck candies, crumpled packaging, off-center printing, dented box, or labeling error. Conversely, a good personalized candy is identifiable by the regularity of shapes, cleanliness of packaging, consistent aromatic intensity, neatness of printing, and perfect match between the container, content, and expected visual message.
