Customized earbuds are miniature audio devices designed to be inserted or placed at the entrance of the ear canal, allowing for private listening of sound content while offering brand communication support through the storage case, cable, or, more rarely, the external shells of the earbuds themselves. They come in two main configurations: wired (3.5 mm jack or USB-C connector) or wireless (Bluetooth 5.0 technology or higher), with varying autonomy depending on the type of integrated battery and the power of the speakers. The most common models for customization are in-ear Bluetooth earbuds with a charging case, also known as True Wireless (TWS), where each earbud is equipped with a microphone, a touchpad or multifunction button, and a magnet for securing in the case.
The main marking surface is located on the lid of the charging case, in a flat area ranging from 30 × 20 mm to 50 × 30 mm depending on the formats (rectangular or oval box, white or black in ABS). Customization is done by pad printing, four-color UV printing, or laser engraving on metal models. Some references also offer marking on the earbud shells (reduced surface of 10–12 mm), but this option is technically more demanding and often less visible in use. The earbuds themselves are generally made of injected ABS, with interchangeable silicone tips (S, M, L) for a good fit and better passive isolation. The earbud battery ranges from 30 to 50 mAh, the case from 200 to 500 mAh, for a total combined autonomy of 6 to 20 hours depending on the models.
Customized earbuds must meet CE, RoHS, and EN 50332 standards (sound level), and integrate Bluetooth modules compatible with iOS, Android, and Windows. Quality tests include: connection stability (no cuts within a 10 m radius), latency (less than 200 ms in video use), voice clarity in calls (microphone tests), audio quality (frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz), tip fit, and resistance to 500 insertions and removals in the case. The case is equipped with a USB-C or micro-USB port for recharging, with or without LED indicator. Some models offer wireless charging (Qi standard), thus integrating cross-compatibility with other promotional supports such as customized induction chargers.
The standard packaging includes the case, the two earbuds, a charging cable, additional tips, and a multilingual manual, all in a neutral or customized cardboard box. A poor model shows defects such as audio cuts, autonomy lower than advertised, too thin plastic finish, or marking that fades with finger contact. Conversely, good customized earbuds fit well in the ear, deliver clear sound even at low volume, connect instantly, offer a clean finish, a clear, well-positioned, and resistant logo, and provide a listening experience with added value consistent with the brand image applied to the object.
