The customized marinière, far from being a simple striped t-shirt, requires specific textile and graphic rigor dictated by its strong visual structure: regular horizontal stripes, often a boat or round neckline, a slightly loose straight cut, and a denser fabric than average. It is traditionally made from heavy 100% cotton jersey — between 200 and 250 g/m² — or even interlock for a more stable drape. This higher weight gives the marinière a firm hand, structured wear, and good print retention. But it is mainly the presence of stripes that complicates customization: a poorly placed logo can be cut off by a contrasting line, a design that is too fine disappears in the alternating bands, a marking that is too wide creates a visual break that unbalances the whole. The ideal placement is often between two light stripes, on the left chest or on the sleeve, in tone-on-tone embroidery or in well-contrasted transfer. Embroidery is quite suitable here, as long as the design remains compact — a too dense marking would excessively stiffen the fabric. The neckline, generally reinforced, must not be distorted by a nearby marking. Quality customized marinières also include details such as an interior cleanliness band, a discreet woven label, or a double-stitched hem. The cotton used is often combed, to avoid pilling and ensure the fabric's neatness after several washes. Colors must be chosen with care: navy blue stripes on an ecru background for a classic look, black and white for a contemporary version, or more modern variations for event-driven uses. Each line must remain perfectly parallel to the ground once worn, hence the importance of a well-balanced cut. Finally, packaging in kraft pouches, cotton ribbon, or visible folding reinforces the product's careful character. The customized marinière should not be treated like an ordinary t-shirt: it is a garment with a strong identity, both traditional and stylish, in which any graphic intervention must respect the fabric's rhythm — and the motif's heritage.
