The personalized lip balm, often reduced to an innocuous pocket format, nonetheless requires rigorous design to combine cosmetic effectiveness, regulatory safety, and readability of the markings. The tube, generally made of polypropylene, must ensure perfect airtightness while allowing for a smooth rotation of the stick without cracks or jams. The internal mechanism — worm screw — must be precise : a quarter turn too much and the product overflows, breaks, or melts. The balm itself must have a stable texture, neither too hard nor too soft, capable of withstanding variable temperatures without melting in a bag or retracting in cold weather. As for the formulation, most models opt for a neutral base — beeswax, shea butter, castor oil — sometimes enriched with a light aroma (mint, vanilla, red fruits), without pronounced coloring or taste to avoid user rejection. The promotional stick, in direct contact with the lips, is subject to European cosmetic regulation (1223/2009), which implies complete traceability, dermatologically tested formula, CE marking or an INCI sheet available. The customization area is narrow : often a strip of 45 to 55 mm by 20 to 25 mm high, depending on the model. The label must perfectly conform to the curve of the tube, without bubbles or peeling, and resist humidity, friction, even sand, or the bottom of a bag. The choice of visual — logo, pictogram, short message — must take into account the cylindrical format: a font that is too thin becomes illegible, a visual that is too busy gets lost in the rotation movement. Some models integrate a fastening clip or a keychain loop, increasing their visibility and frequency of use. The cap must fit firmly but be easily removed: a clip that is too loose causes unintentional opening, too tight makes use cumbersome. The weight of the stick — generally between 4.8 and 5.5 grams of balm — influences the perception of quality in hand. The personalized lip balm, as a cosmetic promotional item, tolerates no approximation : it is a tactile, everyday product that comes into direct contact with the user and imposes, under its apparent discretion, a high level of requirement in terms of manufacturing, compliance, and sensory perception.
