The customized duck, in the field of promotional items, mainly refers to the bath duck made of soft PVC or molded thermoplastic, an iconic product where customization occurs either by direct printing on the side or chest, or by a label affixed to the packaging. It measures between 5 and 10 cm in height, weighing 30 to 50 g, and features a classic identifiable shape: rounded body, protruding beak, painted or molded eyes, sometimes with molded or painted accessories (helmet, glasses, cape, cap, etc.) according to thematic variations. The material used is a soft and waterproof plastic, meeting EN71 (toy safety) and REACH (absence of phthalates and heavy metals) standards, injected into a two-part mold and then heat-sealed. The interior is hollow, with or without a sound module (whistling duck), and sometimes weighted for better balance on the water's surface.
Customization is generally carried out by pad printing 1 to 4 colors on a smooth area, about 20 × 10 mm on the right or left side, or on the chest, depending on the model's geometry. The logo must not overlap the molding reliefs (wings, curves of the belly or back), and the ink used must be resistant to water, wet handling, and rubbing. Solid color versions are available in yellow, white, black, red, blue, green, and thematic versions may include hand-painted or printed decorations before assembly. Standard models float without tipping, but some variants include a weighted base or a suction cup under the body for attachment to surfaces.
The packaging is individual, in a transparent bag, cardboard box, or PVC with insert, with or without an additional customized label (as a flag or stuck under the base). Conformity tests include: buoyancy on calm water, absence of leaks, durability of marking after prolonged immersion, strength of welds, and non-toxicity of paints. A poor-quality duck is recognized by visible seams, unstable balance (it tips over), sticky or improperly cured material, misaligned or erasable marking, or a deformed beak. A good customized duck, on the other hand, maintains its shape, floats well, features a clear, well-positioned logo, durable in use, and fits into a coherent visual logic with the object, without altering its playful aspect or functional integrity.
