The personalized token keychain is a compact support combining two functions: a transport ring for keys and a removable token, designed to replace coins in supermarket trolleys. This token, inserted into a specific slot or clipped by a tab, is designed in a precise format (26 or 23 mm in diameter depending on the targeted trolley models), in metal, injected ABS plastic, or sometimes in anodized aluminum, with marking on at least one face, sometimes two. The body of the keychain is often molded in plastic or cast in zamac, with a design intended for easy grip of the token, which must be able to be removed and replaced without force, even after several hundred uses. The total weight is between 12 and 30 g.
Customization is done on the token itself (useful circular area of 20 to 24 mm), with laser engraving for metal models, UV quadri printing or tampography for plastic models, with or without protective resin. Some models also allow secondary marking on the body of the keychain (front of the case, oval plate or specific shape), offering a second communication surface. The token can be magnetized (held in its slot by a magnetic point), slid into a lateral notch, or inserted into a circular pressure frame. The ring is generally made of soldered nickel-plated steel, with resistance tested to traction (about 5 kg), and the token holding mechanism is tested for at least 500 insertion/removal cycles.
Models are often delivered in individual bags, sometimes with an operating manual if the design is atypical. Quality tests focus on the durability of the marking (300 dry rubs), the compatibility of the token with the main trolleys (Leclerc, Carrefour, Intermarché systems, etc.), the solidity of the slot and the absence of play between parts. A poorly designed token keychain may jam in the cart, come apart during use, or display a faded logo after a few days. Conversely, a good personalized token keychain combines mechanical precision, ease of use, visual durability, and constant visibility, the user tending to use it several times a week, mechanically reinforcing the memorization of the brand it carries.
